Hi! My name is Dan and I'm offering tutoring/lessons in Mathematics and/or Computer Science.
A bit about me: I'm an experienced instructor with over 15 years of teaching experience and 10 years of industry experience. I've taught at McGill University and Dawson College and worked at Microsoft and Ericsson as a software developer. I have a Masters in Computer Science from McGill and BSc in Math and Computer Science from McGill.
I currently have space to accept a few new students to tutor in either math or computer science. I can help in a variety of areas such as reviewing material before an exam, helping with a personal computer project, assignment help, etc. My largest experiences have been with high school and college/university level students, but I've also worked with students as young as 6.
My areas of expertise include the below:
Computers:
-This is where I've worked in most of my professional life. During that time, I've learned many technical skills and the below is a sample. If what you need is not listed, feel free to reach out to me and we can discuss in more details to see if I can help.
-Java, C#, C/C++, Python, Javascript/node.js, Html, Databases, Algorithms, AI
Math:
-This is what my undergraduate degree was focused on. Here too, if something is missing, please reach out and we can discuss.
-Calculus, Statistics, Probability, Algebra, Linear Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry, Analysis
Other:
-I'm also a National Expert in chess with a peak ELO of over 2200 in Canada and 2400 on lichess.org.
Rates:
I charge 40$ per hour for a virtual lesson. My rate includes preparation for a personalized lesson before each class, and any student receiving recurring lessons will receive asynchronous support from me (over email or text). I also offer group lessons (usually 2 or 3 students at once) for a discount per student.
Testimonials from students:
-"Explains well, kind and patient"
-"He's really good at motivating students to continuously learn"
-"kind, respectful, professional, patient, adaptable"
-"He was my favourite teacher so far. Extremely kind, understanding and patient. Doesn't make us feel dumb, I always felt like if when I needed answers, he was there."
-"I think he is particularly effective in showing students WHY something is important rather than just telling them THAT something is important."
-"He explained everything patiently and clearly"
-"After struggling after my first year, I had to take a java class after a year of not doing any so I had forgotten all about it but Dan helped me so much to get back into it giving me motivation to pursue my studies and not give up."
-"His whole method of teaching is wonderful, he's a perfect example of what teachers should be like"
If you're interested, or have any questions, feel free to reach out and we can have a chat about your goals/needs and figure out the next steps.
Note: I've observed sometimes requests through Craigslists email relay get delayed, so if you haven't heard back from me within two days, please email again.
