The Yard Torch Operator is responsible for dismantling vehicles, equipment, and scrap materials using an oxy-fuel cutting torch and other hand tools to recover nonferrous metals and prepare ferrous materials for processing and final sale. This position plays a critical role in maximizing material recovery while maintaining a safe, organized, and environmentally compliant work environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Dismantle vehicles, machinery, and other equipment using cutting torches and hand tools.
• Remove catalytic converters and recover other valuable nonferrous metals.
• Properly identify, separate, and segregate ferrous and nonferrous materials.
• Cut scrap metal to required specifications for processing, shipping, or final sale.
• Assist with inventory control by accurately tracking recovered materials and material movement.
• Maintain work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
• Follow all company safety policies and use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Comply with all local, state, and federal environmental and safety regulations.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with customers, vendors, and coworkers through professional interactions.
• Report equipment issues, safety hazards, or environmental concerns promptly.
• Assist with general yard operations as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Required Education and Experience
• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience operating an oxy-fuel cutting torch.
• Experience dismantling vehicles, heavy equipment, or industrial machinery.
• Experience using grinders, saws, and other hand tools safely.
• Ability to identify common ferrous and nonferrous metals.

Preferred Qualifications
• Previous experience in the scrap metal or recycling industry.
• Forklift or heavy equipment experience.
• OSHA safety training or equivalent.
• Experience operating material handlers or excavators is a plus.

Working Conditions
This position is performed primarily outdoors in an active scrap recycling facility. Employees may be exposed to moving equipment, loud noise, dust, dirt, sharp materials, and changing weather conditions. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times.
