Position Overview
The Operations Engineer plays a critical role in optimizing daily operations across our recycling yard and processing facilities. This position focuses on improving workflow efficiency, equipment performance, safety protocols, and overall productivity. The ideal candidate is hands-on, solutions-driven, and experienced in industrial or heavy equipment environments and team management.
Key Responsibilities
Analyze and improve operational workflows for scrap processing, material handling, and logistics
Monitor and enhance performance of heavy equipment (shears, balers, loaders, excavators, etc.)
Identify inefficiencies and implement cost-saving and productivity improvements
Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Collaborate with yard associates, operators, and leadership to drive operational excellence
Support maintenance planning and equipment uptime strategies
Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and regulatory standards
Utilize data and reporting to track KPIs and operational performance
Assist in layout planning and optimization of yard flow and material staging
Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Industrial, Mechanical, or related field preferred) or equivalent experience
3+ years of experience in operations, manufacturing, recycling, or heavy industrial environments
Strong understanding of heavy equipment and industrial processes
Proven ability to improve processes and drive efficiency
Experience with safety programs and regulatory compliance
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and leadership abilities
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and operational data analysis
Preferred Experience
Scrap metal or recycling industry experience
Equipment maintenance planning or reliability engineering
Experience working in fast-paced, outdoor industrial environments
Pass pre-employment screening, health assessment and drug screen
