Needing advice about eviction

Worked for a company as plumber.

Replaced several main sewers.

Was told I could stay at one of their properties while I worked at half price.

They said no rent.

Now they stiffed me on a job.

They want me to move and say the money they owe me is going to rent.

What can I do?

No lease agreement.

Have text messages of everything done and said.

I fear now that they did not pull permits for work done and will try to pin it on me as well and keep the 4 grand they owe me while kicking me out.
