1 Contractor Solutions is looking for a detail-oriented **Permit Technician** to join our team remotely. In this role, you'll be the engine behind getting our projects approved and moving — preparing, submitting, and tracking building and trade permits across multiple jurisdictions. If you know your way around municipal permit portals, love keeping messy processes organized, and take pride in never letting a submittal slip through the cracks, we want to hear from you.
This is a fully remote position. You'll work directly with our project managers, contractors, and local building departments to keep permits flowing and deadlines met.
What you'll do
- Prepare, assemble, and submit permit applications for residential and/or commercial construction projects across multiple jurisdictions
- Research permit requirements, fees, and submittal standards for different cities, counties, and building departments
- Track the status of all active permits and proactively follow up with jurisdictions to keep approvals on schedule
- Coordinate with project managers, contractors, and clients to gather required documents, plans, and information
- Respond to plan-review comments and corrections, and resubmit as needed until permits are issued
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records in our permit-tracking system
- Manage online permitting portals (e.g., Accela, eTRAKiT, ProjectDox, and jurisdiction-specific systems)
- Flag potential delays early and communicate clearly with the team about status and next steps
What we're looking for
- 2+ years of experience as a permit technician, permit coordinator, permit expediter, or in a related construction-administration role
- Familiarity with the building permit process and general construction terminology
- Strong organizational skills and sharp attention to detail — you catch the missing signature before the city does
- Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable dealing with building departments and clients
- Proficiency with computers, online permit portals, PDFs, and standard office software
- Self-motivated and reliable in a remote environment — you can manage your own workload and deadlines without someone looking over your shoulder
- Reliable high-speed internet and a quiet, dedicated workspace
Nice to have
- Experience submitting permits across multiple states or jurisdictions
- Familiarity with reading construction plans and basic knowledge of local building codes / IBC / IRC
- ICC Permit Technician certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience with construction project management software
