We’re building yurts and custom structures on a private 100+ acre off-grid island. This is the first phase of a long-term development project, aiming to build something akin to a “Necker North” on the West Coast, with plans for a future retreat-style environment focused on nature, high-quality living, and wellness-oriented programs.
Ocean views. Small crew. Serious work. No distractions.
The Heavy Equipment Operator supports land clearing, site preparation, road construction, blasting support, and structural backfill. The primary machine is a Hitachi EX-200, with two smaller excavators available for lighter-duty work.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate the Hitachi EX-200 and smaller excavators for assigned site and construction work.
- Complete land clearing, site preparation, road construction, structural backfill, and related excavation tasks.
- Provide equipment support for blasting activities in accordance with direction, site controls, and applicable safety requirements.
- Support tree-falling activities only within demonstrated competence, authorization, and site safety procedures.
- Perform daily inspections, identify maintenance needs, and plan equipment movements carefully around workers, structures, utilities, unstable ground, and changing site conditions.
- Coordinate sequencing with the Site Supervisor and construction team, communicate clearly, and stop work when conditions or exclusion zones are unsafe or unclear.
Qualifications and Experience
- Valid heavy-equipment operator ticket required.
- Demonstrated experience operating mid-size or large excavators, including equipment comparable to a Hitachi EX-200.
- Practical experience with land clearing, road construction, excavation, grading, and structural backfill.
- Experience supporting blasting operations and working around active construction crews is strongly preferred.
- Tree-falling qualifications or demonstrated relevant experience are an asset but do not replace site authorization.
- Strong judgment, spatial awareness, equipment-care habits, and commitment to safe operating practices.
Working Conditions
- Outdoor work on active construction terrain, including uneven ground and changing weather and access conditions.
-The operator must remain alert to personnel, exclusion zones, ground stability, structures, and equipment limitations as work volume changes across site preparation, blasting, road, and backfill activities.
What Success Looks Like
Equipment work is completed safely and efficiently, machines remain well maintained, excavation and backfill meet project requirements, and site preparation supports the construction schedule without avoidable damage or delay.
