Mt. Shasta Animal Hospital is looking for a friendly, motivated, and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our team! We are happy to train the right candidate who is eager to learn and grow in the veterinary field.
In this role, you'll assist our veterinarians and veterinary assistants with a variety of tasks, including:
• Safely restraining and positioning patients for examinations, treatments, and radiographic procedures
• Assist veterinarians during surgeries and medical procedures, ensuring sterile technique and patient monitoring
• Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian
• Under the direct supervision of the veterinarian, fill prescriptions for patients
• Perform diagnostic tests including blood draws, fecal exams, and urinalysis
• Monitor patient recovery and report changes in condition to the veterinary team
• Maintain accurate medical records and input data into practice management software
• Clean and sterilize surgical instruments, equipment, and treatment areas
• Educate clients on post-treatment care, medications, and general animal wellness
• Support inventory management by restocking supplies and notifying team of low stock
• Uphold safety protocols and ensure a clean, organized, and compassionate environment for patients and clients
This position requires the ability to:
Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the day
Ability to work in a moderate-paced environment and adapt to changing physical demands
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods
Lift and carry up to 40 pounds independently, or more with assistance from a team member
Comfortably support the veterinary team during medical emergencies and end-of-life services, including euthanasia
Work comfortably around animal dander, bodily fluids, cleaning products, and other materials commonly found in a veterinary hospital setting
Confidently, gently, and safely work with animals of varying temperaments, including those that are ill, injured, or stressed.
Use personal protective equipment (PPE), supplied by the hospital, during procedures and cleaning
Occasionally working overtime as needed to provide care and support for patients
Requirements:
Must be at least 18 years of age due to radiation safety regulations associated with assisting during radiographic procedures.

Full-Time Position
Tuesday through Friday
7:50 AM - 6:30 PM

Compensation
$18.00 - $20.00/hour, dependent on previous experience in a veterinary hospital/animal handling
