Job Title: Full-Charge Construction Bookkeeper (Full Time 40 hrs week)
About Us:
We are a premier residential building contractor operating in the Wilson County, TN area. We specialize in affordable home construction and are seeking an experienced, high-level Full-Charge Residential Construction Bookkeeper to take over full responsibility of our accounting and bookkeeping operations from current personnel.
Position Overview:
This is a full-time, work mostly from-home position for a complete full-charge bookkeeper capable of managing all day-to-day financial operations independently. You will handle full-cycle construction accounting from initial project setup through final home closeouts, maintaining complete oversight of payables, receivables, job costing, construction / client draws and payroll operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Full-Cycle Accounting: Take full ownership of day-to-day financial operations using QuickBooks Online, working with Jobtread a construction platform transitioning complete responsibility from current personnel.
AP & AR Management: Oversee all accounts payable (vendor invoices, subcontractor pay apps, payment execution) and accounts receivable (client draw schedules, invoicing, payment posting).
Job Costing & Cost Codes: Ensure strict, precise allocation of all labor, materials, and subcontractor costs across active residential projects using accurate cost codes.
Payroll & WIP Processing: Process company payroll, manage payroll allocation to specific jobs, and maintain Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting for accurate project tracking.
Home Closeouts: Coordinate complete financial closeouts for completed home builds, reconciling all job costs, final subcontractor retainage, vendor lien waivers, and settlement statements.
Reconciliations & Reporting: Perform monthly bank, credit card, and loan reconciliations, generating timely financial reports for leadership and preparing records for the CPA year-end review.
Compliance: Collect and monitor vendor insurance certificates (COIs), W-9s, and executed lien waivers.
Qualifications:
5 to 10+ years of full-charge bookkeeping experience specifically in residential construction.
Software Proficiency: High proficiency in QuickBooks Online, along with strong working experience using Google Workspace (Google Docs, Google Sheets) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
Construction Tech: Direct hands-on experience using industry construction management platforms such as JobTread, (including managing integrations between project software and QuickBooks).
Proven mastery of construction accounting principles: job costing, cost coding, payroll allocation, WIP schedules, and home closeout reconciliations.
Deep understanding of subcontractor management, lien laws, draw schedules, and COI tracking.
Strong self-starter with the ability to take total ownership of accounting workflows independently.
Dedicated home office setup with reliable high-speed internet.
Location: Remote (Wilson County area preferred for periodic coordination and meetings).
