Part-Time Server – Thursday – Sunday Evenings (Friday & Saturday required. Thursday & Sunday availability a plus)
About Us
We’re a small tasting menu restaurant in downtown Montclair that has made a few “best of” lists—and wants to stay there.
Great service is as important as great food, and we are looking for team members who take pride in helping to make our guests' experience memorable -- not because the steps of service are perfect (though they should be pretty close), but because we have a knack for being there when our guests want us and stepping back when they don't, for giving just the right "extra" when it's called for, and because we are passionate about the food that we're proud to share from our kitchen.
The Role
As a Server at Sam’s Table, you are an important part of the experience. You’ll guide guests through their evening with confidence, joy and a generosity of spirit, helping turn a simple night out into one they’ll recall with warmth and a smile.
Your Mission
Be genuinely interested in the people and world around you.
Why is it that candy cap mushrooms taste like maple syrup? Where do we get them? How did the guest who brings in his seven-year-old for dinner help that child develop such a varied palate? Why does our dishwasher always listen to Billy Joel before service?
You don't have to know all the answers. You just must be curious enough to ask. That curiosity creates connection, gives you something interesting to talk about when the moment calls for it, and—bottom line—makes working in a restaurant a whole lot more interesting.
Know the story behind the food. Understand every dish, every ingredient, where it came from and what inspired it, so you can tell its story with heart.
Anticipate needs before they're spoken. Exceed expectations not with grand gestures, but with thoughtful details.
Work as a team.
Collaborate with the kitchen, leadership and fellow team members to create seamless, gracious service.
What We're Looking For
• A genuine passion for hospitality as a meaningful act of service.
• Emotional intelligence, empathy and a desire to connect with people.
• Curiosity about food, wine, coffee and the world around you.
• The ability to read a room—to know when a guest wants your attention and when they want to be left alone.
• Previous fine-dining experience is a plus, but attitude, curiosity and presence matter more.
• Friday and Saturday evening availability is required; availability on Thursday and/or Sunday is a plus.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour including server minimum wage plus typical tips
