Vintage wooden U.S. Air Force Communications Service unit sign from the 1935th Communications Squadron’s AUTODIN Switching Center at Wildwood Air Force Station near Kenai, Alaska. Wildwood operated as a U.S. Air Force facility from 1965 to 1972, dating this sign to that period.
The sign features the Air Force Communications Service emblem and its motto, “Providing the Reins of Command.” The emblem appears to be a large decal or sticker applied to the wooden backboard. The lettering below—“1935th Comm Sq / ASC / Wildwood AFS”—is painted directly on the wood. ASC stands for AUTODIN Switching Center, part of the military’s early digital communications network.
Measures approximately 27-3/4" x 20-3/4".
