Vise is in excellent condition especially for being 110 to 145 years old.
These where called:
Yoke ... post vise
Yoke ... Leg vise
The jaws are 4-1/2 wide
& 3-1/2 deep
& 6-1/4 opening
Device is mounted on the bottom side of the bench
And the weight and the pounding force is taken/supported by the leg/post
This isn't very well-balanced vice s you can see in the pictures ..... That is not an illusion it is standing on its own. 140 pounds wow
This would be incredible in a blacksmith shop
This is a link of a similar vise and interesting article
I am not sure when this 140 pound Ware vise was Manufactured.
I have spent many hours researching
And what I have found is somewhere between 1881 to 1916
Nostalgia ....... 110 years to 145 years ago just think of all the changes ..... this was Manufactured before World War 1.
I do not need to sell I want to sell because I currently have no real need for it or a area large enough to set up a workbench to support a large vise
