Opae ula are extremely hardy shrimp that get no bigger than 1.2cm and live in brackish (half salt half purifird) water in Hawaii. They live off the biofilm that naturally grows in the container, are very hardy and can live up to 20 years! They do not need to be cleaned or fed once the jars are established so they make the perfect pet. They need to be placed in an area where they will get indirect light and no drafts. They prefer tempuratures between 68° and 90°. I have 2 types of containers im currently using but am open to try diffrent styles. A 2000ml (about half a gallon) glass beaker, and a 1 gallon glass Mason jar. I have the gallon jars growing as i type so they could go home sooner than the beaker. The beaker is a standard order, it comes with off white crushed coral, or sand substrate with lava rock for the biofilm to grow on. You would receive 10 shrimp, and one bundle of Chaeto a green macroalgae popular in saltwater aquariums for nutrient export, removing nitrates and phosphates, and providing a healthy habitat. These beakers are $125 and can not be customized. If you'd like to add yellow shrimp they are a special order and would be an extra $60 for 5 shrimp. The one gallon jar is customizable. It would also come with the same substrate, and chaeto, but can hold up to 20 shrimp. They are $150 but can increase by customizations like adding your favorite cartoon character as decor. The shrimp do reproduce but stop when they feel the enclosure is at its capacity. You would be provided a fact/care sheet and food. They eat Natural Tank Food In an established brackish aquarium, their absolute favorite food grows completely on its own. Depending on how much algea grows i can also add in a snail. If your tank is brand new or you have a very dense colony, you can offer a tiny meal once every 4 weeks. It is extremely important to feed only as directed or the enclosure water will get foul and the shrimp can die. Once the biofilm is established you technically never have to feed them again. The only care they need is to top off their enclosure with purified water if any of the water evaporates.
