Job Summary: This is skilled work performing vehicle and equipment preventative maintenance and repairs.
Job duties include:
Performs routine preventative maintenance and services on all fleet vehicles, to include pickups, SUVs, sedans, dump trucks, lowboy tractors, tractor with mower/disc attachments, generators, pumps, and all other asset tools and equipment present at the Palm Bay Service Center. Analyzing, identifying, making repairs, and evaluating safe operations to engine, body, frame, electrical and hydraulic issues on pumps, gas, diesel, and other engines, motors, and control units; maintains an orderly, healthy, and safe work area. Performs other tasks related to the Transportation program as assigned by the shop supervisor.
Uses an electronic work order system in the performance of all assigned work. Maintains accurate accountability of time, parts and materials expended on preventive maintenance, inspections, administration, and services. Operates vehicles and equipment, such as pickup trucks, forklifts, dump trucks, front-end loader, dozer, trackhoe, grader, tractors, mowers, semi-tractor trailer, and mechanic shop equipment for testing and evaluating maintenance performed.
Performs metal fabrication and welding on vehicles and equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a high school diploma or G.E.D. and four years of experience as described above or formal education may substitute for work experience and a valid Florida Class A Commercial Driver License with Tanker N endorsement or the ability to obtain within one year from date of hire.
The District may pay for the Entry-Level Driver Training program and may reimburse for other fees associated with obtaining the CDL license through a provider of the District’s choice. After the initial Entry-Level Driver Training program paid by the District, if a CDL is not obtained, employee will be responsible for the cost of subsequent training.
SJRWMD has determined this to be a mandatory testing position as described in Section 440.102, Florida Statutes and the Commercial Motor Vehicle Drug Testing Program as described in 49 CFR Part 382. Physical Requirements/Working Environment:
Occasionally perform work in outdoor environments, inclement weather, and remote locations; set-up, lift and/or move equipment; lift and carry heavy objects, bend, kneel and crouch, reach overhead, grasp, push and pull, maintain a priority of safety, make effective, consistent, and defensible decisions.
Licenses:
Valid State of Florida Driver’s License.
Valid Florida Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) with Tanker (N) endorsement at the time of hire, or the ability to obtain the license and endorsement within one year from the date of hire.

Starting Salary Range: $43,763.20 - $54,662.40
Starting salary is based on qualifications and experience.
