Located on Orcas island, dotty but I never come to mainland.
This tenor features a gorgeous bearclaw Sitka spruce top, aiding in the strong, clear tone. The sides and back are the extremely rare and sought after indigenous Hawaiian wood, master grade koa. This set of koa is as beautiful and figured as you can find. Tonally, it has all the warmth and still sparkles. Strummers will appreciate the extra power in the lower midrange, while finger-stylists will enjoy the body and sustain.
There are many factors that make "the Ko'olau sound". One being that Noa only uses hide glue in his construction. This is a bit more time-consuming of a process but makes for a more crystalline, rigid bond (compared to Titebond) that tends to contract--rather than fill--the joint. This leads to a crisper, "snappier" sound because treble is lost when joints get sloppy and hot hide glue demands tight joints and then makes them tighter.
It's protected with a perfect nitrocellulose gloss finish for the body and faceplate. This type of gloss best allows the wood to "breathe". The back of the Honduran mahogany neck though is a satin nitro finish for smooth sliding, and with the radius fretboard, it's extremely comfortable to play.
