Project Safety Coordinator – Commercial Construction

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Project Safety Coordinator to support safety operations on commercial construction projects. This position is responsible for promoting a proactive safety culture, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and project-specific safety requirements while helping maintain a safe work environment for employees, subcontractors, and visitors.
The ideal candidate has experience working on large commercial construction projects such as healthcare facilities, educational campuses, municipal buildings, offices, hospitality, and other institutional developments. This role requires a strong field presence and the ability to build positive working relationships while enforcing safety standards. Key Responsibilities:
* Monitor daily construction activities to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and project-specific safety requirements.
* Conduct routine jobsite safety inspections, audits, and hazard assessments.
* Identify unsafe acts and conditions and work with project management to implement corrective actions.
* Lead new hire safety orientations and site-specific safety training.
* Conduct and document daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and weekly safety reports.
* Verify proper use of PPE and ensure compliance with site safety requirements.
* Investigate incidents, injuries, and near misses, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions.
* Maintain accurate safety records, inspections, permits, certifications, and regulatory documentation.
* Coordinate with superintendents, project managers, subcontractors, and client representatives to resolve safety concerns.
* Assist with fall protection, excavation, scaffolding, confined space, crane, hot work, and other high-risk activity planning.
* Monitor housekeeping and site organization to reduce hazards.
* Promote a positive safety culture through coaching, mentoring, and consistent communication.
* Stay current on OSHA standards and industry best practices.
Qualifications:
* 3+ years of construction safety experience on commercial construction projects preferred.
* Strong knowledge of OSHA Construction Standards.
* Experience conducting jobsite inspections, safety audits, and incident investigations.
* Ability to recognize hazards and implement effective corrective actions.
* Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to work independently while collaborating with project teams.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and electronic safety documentation.
* Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
* Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and walk active construction sites daily.
Preferred Certifications:
* OSHA 30 Construction (Required or Preferred)
* OSHA 500/510 (Preferred)
* First Aid/CPR Certification
* CHST (Construction Health & Safety Technician) or other BCSP certifications preferred
Physical Requirements:
* Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders and stairs, and navigate active construction sites for extended periods.
* Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
* Work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and other changing weather conditions.
* Wear required PPE, including hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
