Centrim Electric is a family-owned, large-scale, non-union electrical construction company with over 20 years in business. We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Estimator to join our team.
Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Estimator with extensive experience in large-scale, ground-up commercial and industrial electrical construction, including warehouses, distribution centers, manufacturing facilities, cold storage facilities and other major commercial and industrial developments.
The ideal candidate will have experience estimating projects involving substantial electrical infrastructure and power distribution systems, with individual electrical contracts valued up to $25 million.
This is a hands-on senior position requiring the ability to independently manage multiple estimates while utilizing our internal estimating support team. The successful candidate will play an important role in developing competitive bids, maintaining established company margin requirements and supporting projects from initial bid through post-award execution.
Relevant Project Experience
Candidates should have substantial electrical estimating experience across several of the following project types:
• Large-scale, ground-up commercial and industrial construction
• Industrial and manufacturing facilities
• Large warehouses, logistics centers and distribution facilities
• Refrigerated warehouses, freezer facilities and cold storage
• Large commercial buildings and industrial developments
• Major electrical service installations and power distribution infrastructure
Experience in every category is not required. The emphasis is on demonstrated experience estimating large-scale commercial and industrial electrical construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Preconstruction
• Independently lead and manage multiple electrical estimates for individual projects valued up to $25 million.
• Manage the estimating process from initial review and conceptual budgeting through final bid submission, utilizing internal estimating support and resources.
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, grounding, fire alarm, low-voltage, medium-voltage and applicable high-voltage systems.
• Prepare comprehensive labor, material, equipment and subcontractor cost estimates using industry-standard estimating software.
• Review construction drawings, specifications, one-line diagrams and bid documents to determine project scope, identify discrepancies and evaluate potential risks.
• Develop conceptual budgets, competitive bids, design-build estimates and value-engineering alternatives.
Bid Preparation, Pricing & Supplier Coordination
• Prepare formal bid proposals, scope letters, inclusions, exclusions and bid clarifications.
• Solicit, review and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations, ensuring complete scope coverage and competitive pricing.
• Develop accurate and competitive estimates in accordance with established company margin requirements.
• Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, scope reviews and bid presentations.
• Identify scope gaps, potential cost savings and alternative construction methods.
• Maintain organized estimating records, historical pricing information and bid documentation.
• Leverage established relationships with general contractors, developers, engineers, suppliers and subcontractors.
Engineering & Project Management Coordination
• Collaborate with engineering, purchasing and project management teams to resolve drawing discrepancies, clarify scope and obtain information required for accurate estimates.
• Coordinate with general contractors, engineers and suppliers throughout the bidding process.
• Lead post-award estimating handoffs, including review of project budgets, labor estimates, material costs, subcontractor pricing, scope assumptions and potential risks.
• Support procurement, change-order pricing, scope revisions and ongoing project cost evaluations.
• Provide estimating support to project management throughout construction, helping maintain project budgets and targeted margins.
Required Qualifications
• Extensive experience estimating large-scale commercial and industrial electrical construction projects, with an emphasis on ground-up construction.
• Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple bids and deadlines.
• Experience estimating multimillion-dollar electrical contracts, including individual projects valued up to $25 million.
• Strong knowledge of electrical construction methods, estimating procedures, labor productivity, material pricing and project costs.
• Proficiency in at least one industry-standard electrical estimating or takeoff software platform, such as Accubid, ConEst, Bluebeam or an equivalent.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable New Jersey electrical codes and standards.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, one-line diagrams and construction documents.
• Technical knowledge of electrical service infrastructure, switchgear, transformers, power distribution, lighting, grounding, fire alarm, low-voltage, medium-voltage and applicable high-voltage systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to participate in bid meetings and presentations.
• Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Established relationships with general contractors, developers, engineers, suppliers and subcontractors within the commercial and industrial construction market.
• Ability to independently lead estimates while effectively utilizing internal estimating resources and collaborating with engineering and project management teams.
• Willingness to travel to project sites throughout New Jersey.
Compensation & Benefits
Annual Salary: $85,000–$130,000
Final compensation will be determined through the interview process and will be commensurate with the candidate's experience and qualifications.
