An original wheelchair that was used at the Traverse City State Hospital in the early 1900s.
It's been completely restored...All the wood was stripped and refinished...All the steel was sandblasted and repainted.
The rubber on the wheels is original and in excellent condition.
The back of the seat was redone in new wicker fabric.
The only thing missing is the 'potty' bucket that laid in the steel pan below the seat.
Everything is fully functional including the footrests and the reclining seat back.
It was restored by a retired doctor in the 1960s, who worked at the hospital.
I've checked online and similar ones are listed from $1,100 up tp to $1,600.
* This wheelchair is very exquisite and a piece of Traverse City State Hospital's history!
