A news organization is looking for a freelance journalist or photographer in or near Linden, NJ for a short, time-sensitive reporting assignment tied to a looming labor dispute at a large industrial facility.
The work has two parts, both done lawfully and from public areas:
- Photograph the facility's perimeter from public roads and rights-of-way -- documenting any new signage (security, no-trespass, or lockout notices), barricades, temporary fencing, staging trailers, contractor buses, or other signs of contingency preparations.
- Speak with union workers about staffing, safety, and working conditions, on the record where they're willing (audio only with consent), and collect any relevant documents they choose to share.
Deliverables: photos and video, plus interview notes/audio, into a private Google Drive folder we provide.
Requirements: reliable transportation, a camera that takes clear photos from a distance, and comfort approaching people for brief interviews. A reporting or journalism background is a plus.
Rules: Identify yourself truthfully. This is straightforward observational and interview work; expect that photographing near a large facility may draw attention.
This is time-sensitive -- a this-week assignment. Exact location and a detailed brief are shared once engaged.
Principals only. Recruiters, please don't contact this job poster.
