As an Access/Security Technician, you will:
• Install, maintain, alter, add, troubleshoot, and repair low-voltage electrical systems related to building access and security equipment.
• Interpret and use schematics and blueprint drawings to install and troubleshoot electrical conduit systems, door controls, security system wiring, and device terminations in a commercial construction setting.
• Assist with commissioning, programming, and documentation of building access control and security systems.
• Ensure work complies with applicable building, electrical, and fire codes and University and departmental standards and guidelines.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization in assigned work areas.
• Complete work orders and utilize an electronic timekeeping system daily.
What you bring to the position:
• High school diploma or equivalent experience.
• Ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Thinking, reasoning, and good communication skills.
• Thoroughness and attention to detail.
• Good time management and organizational skills.
• Familiar with and able to operate tools and machinery.
• Able to lift 50 lbs. and to work from a ladder and/or aerial equipment.
• Available by cell phone to assist with campus emergencies.
• Available for regular rotations on the weekend and after-hours on-call schedule.
• State of Nebraska Apprentice Electrical License or the ability to obtain the license upon employment.
Additional qualifications that support success in this position (not required):
• Associate’s degree in electrical technology, other related field of study, or equivalent experience.
• Understanding of building and construction principles, electrical systems, applicable codes, and/or supporting electrical systems.
• Knowledge, experience, and ability to operate a variety of tools and machinery.
• Basic computer skills.
• Basic understanding of electrical theory.
• Ability to research, read, interpret, and work with project blueprints and specifications.
• Skilled in operating testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and ammeters to test and diagnose circuits in low-voltage electrical fire life safety equipment.
•Knowledgeable of and skilled in the processes, procedures, and codes required of the trade.
• Experience with MicroKey alarm monitoring software, IPDact network configuration, AutoCAD, and/or door access and security software.
• Familiarity with or proficiency using EMCS, access controls, security systems, and CMMS.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
• State of Nebraska Journeyman Electrical license.
This position is part of a career ladder with multiple levels based on qualifications, with pay commensurate with each level. Responsibilities at higher levels may include:
• Ensure compliance with regulations such as applicable building, electrical, and fire codes, and university and departmental standards and guidelines.
• Commission, program, and document building access control and security systems.
• Perform door and security systems programming and configure networking communication and alarm monitoring systems.
• Confirm scope, schedule, and budget requirements of work assignments and coordinate changes.
• Test and diagnose low-voltage electrical and building access control wiring and equipment.
• Coordinate work with staff, contractors, vendors, project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders.
• Train and mentor others and assist with project development, employee training, safety coordination, and estimating.
This position is full-time and is classified as nonexempt. This position has a set schedule and includes on-call responsibilities.
