This is a very desirable and rare clock, a Smiths Astral Admiralty-pattern marine bulkhead clock, serial AP160174, made in Great Britain. The heavy brass case, locking bezel, stop/start lever, center sweep seconds, and 8-day movement are all consistent with Royal Navy and commercial marine clocks made in the 1950s–1960s. The label on the back also identifies it as an "Ex Admiralty Marine Brass Clock." Also '...as supplied to Her Majesty's Ships!'
Original dial with very little discoloration.
Original hands, including the red sweep seconds hand.
Brass case is unpolished with an attractive patina.
Beveled glass is good.
Mounted on a custom oak display stand with an "H.M.S. Andromeda" nameplate (the stand is not original to the clock but adds display appeal). The H.M.S. Andromeda was a Leander-class frigate of the British Royal Navy.
It's a large and heavy clock - about seven pounds. The dial is 7.5"and the flange width is 10.5" The clock is running and keeping time. I've owned it for many years and have never had it serviced.
$350 with local pickup. Questions cheerfully answered. Thanks.
