I just used a little on a acrylic 2" cup to seal some cracks.
This includes a application syringe and a mostly full can of Weld-On 4.
Plastics that bond well with solvent (weld-on) welding include:
Acrylic (PMMA) — excellent for solvent welding with methyl methacrylate-based solvents.
Polycarbonate (PC) — can be solvent-welded with specific polycarbonate solvents/adhesives (less common than for acrylic).
PVC (rigid) — good solvent welding with PVC cement (commonly used for pipe/joint bonding).
ABS — bonds well with ABS-specific solvent cements.
CPVC — like PVC but requires CPVC-rated solvent cement.
SAN and ABS/SAN blends — use compatible solvent adhesives (similar to ABS).
PMMA blends (acrylic blends) — behave like acrylic when matched to the correct solvent.
Plastics that are generally NOT suitable for weld-on (solvent) fusion:
Polyethylene (PE) — low surface energy; needs special methods (hot-gas welding or specialized adhesives).
Polypropylene (PP) — similar to PE; not solvent-weldable.
PTFE (Teflon) — non-stick; not solvent-weldable.
Nylon (PA) — poor solvent welding; often welded thermally or joined with adhesives designed for nylon.
POM/Acetal — not reliably solvent-weldable; use mechanical fastening, adhesives, or ultrasonic/thermal welding.
