“It is never too early or too late to begin music lessons. Whatever your age, musical expression is yours to develop.”
——————————
Giovanna Confalone is a summa
cum laude graduate of Boston
University's College of Fine Arts
(1998). Giovanna earned her
bachelor's degree in Collaborative
Piano Performance with an
emphasis on vocal duo coaching
and art song repertoire. A Boston
native, Giovanna returned to
Massachusetts in 2010 to pursue
her Master's of Music Education
degree at her alma mater. Back in Central PA and accepting new students beginning July 2026!
Giovanna has been a faculty
member of Cambridge Music and
Riverside Theatre Works School of
Performing Arts in Boston, where
she was appointed principal Music
Director and taught piano and voice
until 2005. Giovanna joined the
faculty at Steinert's Piano Academy
in 2010 before committing herself
exclusively to her private studio,
which she has been cultivating since
1995.
Giovanna has accompanied
recitals given by members of the
Metropolitan Opera, the Boston
Symphony Orchestra, the Boston
Pops, Boston Lyric Opera, and the
North German Radio Chorus (NDR)
in Hamburg. She was also founding
member and music director of
Boston's swing vocal ensemble, The
Sophisticated Ladies.
An avid would-be linguist, Giovanna
has studied French, Italian, German,
Spanish, Russian, Latin, and Greek,
making her a sought-after vocal
coach for professional opera
singers.
Current "extracurricular"
projects include the creation of The
Mel Bonis Project, a non-profit
music collaborative devoted to
discovering, disseminating,
promoting, and performing the
music of 19th century French
women composers.
PHILOSOPHY
Music lessons are, by nature, a collabora-
tive effort. Therefore, developing a trusting
relationship that encourages dialogue is
central to my teaching method. Goals can
then be established together and music
selected accordingly. I believe developing
good technique can facilitate freedom of
expression. To this end, learning how to get
the most out of one’s practice time is an
essential skill that boosts future growth ten-
fold. Though lessons can be a lot of fun, the
prime objective of music education is not
merely to entertain the student (though this
has been known to happen from time to
time!) The study of music aspires to greater
ideals: to inspire, to educate, to build confi-
dence, to reward, and to grow. My goal as
a teacher is not to turn out concert pianists
and opera singers, though I will happily prepare anyone who wants to
travel that path. My primary goal is to prove
to all students that they are capable of cre-
ating music and exploring the reaches of
their potential. Everyone deserves to experience that joy.

TESTIMONIALS:
“Giovanna is a wildly talented musician, but her true gift is as a teacher. She knows exactly how to push, prod, and inspire a student (even an adult student) to reach his or her full potential. Her passion for music is contagious, and it has been my distinct privilege to study both piano and voice with her for three [now twelve] years. I cannot recommend Giovanna highly enough.”

“Our oldest child had a few attempts at learning the piano from the age of 4, with little success. However, when she stepped into Miss G's studio for the first time, we could see that this experience would be something very different. Giovanna's fun and caring approach to piano instruction really made an impact on our daughter. From that first lesson, she embraced the piano and the greater experience of creating music. Giovanna's influence continues to propel our kids forward in their journey with this boundless instrument. We are so grateful that Giovanna became part of our children's musical lives.”

“Giovanna has taught my girls piano for 2+ years and they have progressed so well. She has a way of connecting with them while keeping them accountable for their practices. After trying two other instructors, there is no one I would rather have teach my children. Best of all, I don't hear any complaints about practicing, which is a parent's dream! Highly recommend her!“

“She has influenced me in many important ways and keeps influencing me to get better in everything I do, not just music. Giovanna is very nice and challenges me, helps me get better, and tells me to keep trying. I hope that one day I am as an accomplished musician as Giovanna.”
