I am selling my 2000 540i as is. I absolutely loved driving this car but I just picked up an X5 so I have to let it go. I will be completely honest with its condition.
Its been sitting since the pandemic. It was in getting the timing chain done (which was completed) but then, while at my mechanics, it went into limp mode with the transmission. At the time, I just didn’t have the money to get it fixed so it just sat.
My mechanic drove it here from his shop a few months ago but I have not been able to get it started. There is power from the battery but that’s about as far as it gets. No clicking, not turning…nothing. I used my 3 series battery to try and get it to start, because its all I had on hand, so that might be the reason it cant turnover.
Im not sure of the exact mileage but trying to find out. I think its around 130k. Dash comes on when I turn the key but wont show mileage. I don’t know if a scanner can tell me but a friend is going to try.
Interior is in pretty good shape considering the years on the car.
I will be updating this post with known issues as I think of them but as of now:
-hood release cable is broken
-sunroof is slightly askew. It opens and does not leak
-clearcoat peeling on the hood
-one of the window regulators needs to be replaced
