Please read over the information below to get a better idea of what we are looking for in new team members, if you align with our requirements please continue to the end. While there are a lot of requirements, information and questions, we are looking to find people who are serious about what we are doing out here. So please, please read through everything :)
*Looking for individuals 21-30 years of age
** we do not accept people looking to stay less than three months and priority goes to those who can stay longer
*** This is work trade which means you are exchanging 20 hours of work a week for your accommodation and experience, there are small opportunities to make money in addition but you will not be receiving a paycheck on top of the exchange. - (look up WWOOF if you are confused)
***** NO COUPLES, PETS OR KIDS
This family owned business began in 2009 and has since hosted 100s of wwoofers from all over the world. We are the first commercial organic dragonfruit farm on Maui. Located on the west side, the farm is a 10 minute drive from Lahaina town and our house (accommodations) is a 10 minute walk to the beach.
We are looking for volunteers that can commit to a 3 month stay with opportunities to extend. The stay begins with a two week trial period to ensure our farm is the right fit for both ends. Our primary crop is dragonfruit but we grow a variety of different exotic fruits like bananas, pineapples, lilikoi, papayas, mango, fig, guavas, soursop and citrus. As well as a variety of tea crops that we incorporate into our tours and offer guests who visit the farm. In addition to being a fully operational fruit farm we also offer farm tours, alpaca tours, ziplining and aqua ball.
In exchange for food and accommodation, wwoofers will participate in farm activities for 20 hours a week broken up into 5 days. (Monday - Friday from 8:30am to 1pm w/ a 30 minute lunch break included) That being said, the wwoofers here participate in multitude of different tasks ranging from planting to weeding to pollinating and picking fruits as well as facilitating tours, tending to the alpacas and operating the zip line and aqua ball. As spring approaches, the island is going to see an increase in tourists and so will our farm. We are looking for individuals who are willing and able to not only do farm work but also give tours.
Our tours are a great opportunity for the WWOOFers to get immersed in the plants on our farm and the culture around the islands. Even better, the tours are an incredible way to bring awareness to visitors about Hawaii's rich culture and the ways we can help protect the Aina as we enjoy it. As tour guides we are representing the farm and all the work that has been done prior.
We are looking for individuals that are enthusiastic about learning new things and in turn sharing it with our guests. A good tour guide is confident and enjoys creating an experience for our visitors. We are also looking for individuals who feel confident operating our zipline (25 ft high by 100yrds long) & operating our aquaball as well as following the safety precautions we have in place.
It is important to note that we do live in the desert region of Maui, so the sun gets hot and we expect all wwoofers to be able to work outside in the heat. It's not back breaking labor but you can’t be allergic to the sun.. * we are not in the jungle *
For farm work: I like to relate it more to landscaping than gardening and that is because we are not harvesting on a daily basis to bring to farmers markets or things like that. Our harvesting periods depend on the season and we usually save things to harvest with tour groups to add that extra excitement for our guests. A lot of the work is focused on maintaining the plants already established on the property. However, we are also always working on developing the property as well. Some of our tasks look like: weed whacking, throwing a pickaxe to dig out invasives, weeding established tour routes and crops, propagating and planting new crops of dragonfruit, pineapple, papaya, etc., laying out mulch and fertilizing our plants. While experience is preferred, you will learn everything you need to know as you get more familiar here on the farm.
Accommodation: The owners have purchased a large home in Lahaina town that the team resides in. The house has a full kitchen, a separate kitchenette, two laundry rooms, large communal areas and a pool. There are 3 rooms dedicated to volunteers, each one has 4-5 beds, its own bathroom and AC unit. We provide a bed for each person as well as space to store belongings (dressers, shelves, closets, etc) The house is a 5 minute drive from grocery stores and shops as well as multiple beaches - all are within walking distance as well. There is also a bus stop a 5 minute walk away from the house. It is located 15 minutes away from the farm and we provide a truck to transport the team to and from the farm. We take bi- weekly Costco runs to keep the kitchen stocked for the team to access at any time. We have options for people of most diets - all kinds of different bread and milk options, produce, meats, cheeses, eggs, vegan and veg options, beans, rice, chips, dips, pastas, sauces, produce, treats, frozen meals, snacks and quick easy items etc We ask that people clean up after themselves by washing and putting away dishes and wiping counters and maintaining organized fridges/cabinets.
** This is considered community living, so new members must be open to sharing and respecting the space and one another within our community.
*** I will not answer vague messages, so the more you tell us about yourself - the better. Only contact through this account - do not try to apply through our website or listed phone number. *serious inquiries only - looking for people intending to do work trade not a vacation
** This is work trade - you will not receive a paycheck for the 20hrs worked - in exchange you will be provided with lots of food, a bed in a beautiful home and an enriching experience. There are also a few opportunities to make money however. Occasionally tours will tip and the guides get to keep the tip and the other way is through overtime ( if we ask you to work beyond the 20 hours, we will compensate your time)
