1990 Larson 22 Hampton cuddy with Mercruiser Alpha outdrive.
Chevy 350 engine?
Rings stuck from sitting...Needs Mystery Oil in Cylinders (see below)
GOOD WINTER PROJECT
Some play in outdrive gimbal bearing
Drainplug should be replaced.
Trailer may need tires for fast haul.
Surge brakes need master cylinder plug
Title for boat but not trailer.
Piston rings can rust and lock an engine in place when moisture enters the cylinders and sits for a long time.
How Rusted Rings Seize an Engine
Moisture exposure: Rainwater, humidity, or coolant leaks get inside the cylinder bore when an engine sits unused.Metal-on-metal contact: Oil drains away from the cylinder walls, exposing the iron or steel piston rings to air and water.Rust expansion: Rust forms between the piston ring, the piston groove, and the cylinder wall. Because rust takes up more space than solid metal, it wedges the ring tightly against the cylinder bore and locks the piston in place.
Fixing a Seized Rusted Engine Penetrating fluids: Pouring penetrating oil, diesel fuel, or automatic transmission fluid down the spark plug holes can help dissolve the rust over days or weeks. Gentle pressure: Mechanics use a breaker bar on the crankshaft pulley to gently rock the engine back and forth once the fluid has time to soak
Potential damage: Forcing a rusted engine can snap piston rings or score the cylinder walls, sometimes requiring a full rebuild or boring.
