This fine lithograph is an evocative winter landscape by Bernard Gantner (1928–2018), the Paris‑based French artist celebrated for his atmospheric rural scenes and his masterful handling of line. Gantner’s work often captures the quiet, contemplative spaces of the countryside—villages, bare trees, muted skies—and this piece is a strong example of his ability to render stillness without losing vitality.
Gantner studied at the École des Beaux‑Arts and developed a reputation through the mid‑20th century for landscapes that balanced precision with lyricism. His prints and drawings are held in numerous European collections, and he remains especially admired for the way he conveys winter light, architectural rhythm, and the subtle emotional weight of rural settings.
The lithograph offered here shows a small village nestled among rolling hills, red roofs punctuating the soft winter palette. The bare trees in the foreground are rendered with Gantner’s characteristic delicacy, and the winding snow‑covered path draws the eye gently into the distance. The composition is quiet, assured, and beautifully balanced.
Condition is excellent, with the image surface clean and the signature clearly visible. The frame is sturdy and presents the work well. This is a strong, representative example of Gantner’s mature landscape style—ideal for collectors of French modern landscape printmaking or anyone drawn to serene, finely observed winter scenes.
