Seeking experienced Companion/Caregiver In Ithaca
$25 an hour with potential for benefits
A few days a week 10am-6pm
The person lives in senior housing in downtown Ithaca. He has a good sense of humor, severe memory issues and medically controlled epilepsy (very infrequent seizures). Person can handle his own bathing and toileting, he may need prompting on dressing in clean clothes and correct attire for the weather.
This position entails protective oversight and assistance with tasks of daily living, companionship, grocery shopping, cleaning and some transportation support, applicant should have a clean functioning vehicle. Daily activities include encouraging cards games, playing and facilitating Scrabble games with other tenants in the apartment building, solving puzzles, going for walks, attending exercise activity in the building, grocery shopping, doing laundry, assistance at healthcare appointments.
The job is facilitated through Springbrook NY. Springbrook handles the hiring, training, payroll and optional health benefits and 401K. Springbrook also offers compensation for miles while on the job, and compensation for Staff activity fees like lunch out, movie tickets, parking fees etc.
After the hiring process the staff’s day to day activities are managed by the family.
Minimum Skills and Qualifications: - High school diploma or equivalent - Experience with individuals who have epilepsy and are developmentally disabled is preferred but not a must. - Must have a valid drivers license, a safe clean car and must be willing to provide occasional transportation for person receiving services. - Must be able to lift 50 lbs. independently. An individual who demonstrates compassion, patience, consistency and an even temper is preferred. - Professional verbal and written communication skills required. - Internet access and proficiency in computer and smart phone use is necessary for training and logging daily visits.
