The van recently received an independent mechanical inspection in San Diego. The engine starts easily and runs strong, with the major engine, injector, turbo and cooling areas checking out well.
Like any 20-year-old camper van, it has normal maintenance and age-related items that can be addressed over time. Tires have substantial tread but are getting older, and there are some optional maintenance items (suspension/driveline) and undercarriage surface corrosion (not affecting structure). Some older camper equipment may also benefit from servicing or updating.
The interior is an original older Sportsmobile, not a newly built Instagram conversion—and that’s part of its appeal. Enjoy it now, preserve the classic Sportsmobile character, or gradually modernize it to your own taste.
