Calvin Fletcher (1798 –1866) was an attorney and prominent banker, farmer and state senator in Indianapolis. In 1821 Fletcher moved to the new settlement of Indianapolis, where he made his financial fortune. In addition to his business interests, Fletcher was involved in Indianapolis's educational and civic development.
Calvin Fletcher's diaries begin in 1817, with intermittent entries until 1835, when they become regular, and conclude with his death in 1866. The diary of his wife Sarah Hill Fletcher (1801-1854) begins in 1821 and continues until 1838, helping to augment the lapses in Calvin's diaries. The volumes describe a wide range of topics as well as Fletcher's personal interests, acquaintances, and community activities.
Published as _The Diary of Calvin Fletcher_ in nine volumes by the Indiana Historical Society between 1972 and 1983. The 9 hardback volumes are in pristine condition, like new. $150 for the entire set.
