Seeking experienced farm manager for small-scale farm southwest of Longmont producing 3 acres of organic vegetable crops, 60+ sheep, 30+ pigs, 200+ laying hens, and 600+ meat chickens each year across 50 acres of irrigated pasture. Manager is responsible for all aspects of farm management including but not limited to:
-hire, train, and manage 5-7 employees
-source and purchase all equipment, supplies, feed, livestock, and infrastructure
-plan and schedule all crop production and animal husbandry including making processing appointments
-work alongside crew to prepare fields, plant, weed, maintain, harvest, and sell vegetables through CSA and weekly farmers markets, move sheep and chickens using electric fencing, collect and wash eggs, process meat chickens multiple times per year, irrigate, cut, rake, bale, and store hay, and various other farm tasks
-ensure adherence to best practices for food safety and personnel safety
-maintain farm equipment and infrastructure
-manage growing CSA program, set prices for meat and vegetables, manage inventory, lead weekly farmers markets, and actively seek new marketing and sales outlets
-balance sales, payroll, and expenses to keep farm profitable
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
-must be able to operate tractors with various implements and drive a truck with trailer
-minimum 2 years experience in livestock husbandry required (preferably with sheep, chickens, and hogs)
-MUST have experience lambing, kidding, or calving
-minimum 2 years experience in vegetable crop production required
Pay is $25/hr, negotiable for the right candidate. Hours range from 40/week during winter to 55+/week during growing season. Housing not provided. Start as soon as October, will receive training from current manager.
