Vermont Heavy Timber is seeking experienced carpenters and a project manager for full time work. We are a timber framing company that focuses on historic preservation, working on covered bridges, churches, steeples, meeting houses, and barns. We also cut new timber frames and do window restoration in our heated shop as well as do structural moving and jacking. We mill and hand hew all of our own timber, design our own rigging solutions, and work with clients and colleagues who love what we do. Our company is expanding to accommodate more wooden bridge work, larger restoration jobs, and a broader range across VT. We have an awesome crew who is deeply interested in the craft, and we are constantly working to learn, teach and improve. We work 4-10’s, offer a 401K and 2 weeks of PTO/year after the first year of employment (1st year is 1 week PTO/year) (plus holidays), and offer consistent room to grow your skills and pay.
Project Manager: Knowledge of carpentry is a requirement, and a willingness/ability to flex hours in the shop (hands on) is preferred. We work on many projects funded in part by federal and state grants and have a constant stream of project inquiries, so good communication and organizational skills are essential. Other preferences include experience with excel spreadsheets, GANTT charts, and SketchUp. This is a 20-40 hour a week position with a $30-45 pay range depending on availability and experience, with ample room to grow. There is ability to work from home part time, and opportunities to learn a specialized craft.
Carpenters: Carpentry experience is necessary, timberframing experience is not. We can and will teach timber framing, layout, rigging, and all the other parts of the work that we do that are not commonly known. This is a full time, year round position. We are flexible about time off, and really want our employees to be happy, learn and grow as craftspeople and as humans. We are looking for multiple people, including lead carpenters who can run a crew, experienced joiners and riggers, the ability to run heavy equipment, and experience with window, door and trim restoration. If you are passionate about this trade but don’t have the necessary experience, reach out anyway.
Please send an email detailing why you’d like to work with us and a resume to miles@vermontheavytimber.com.
