Career Overview
Pono was born and raised in Honolulu in The Hawaiian Kingdom. He is a direct, hereditary, lineal, Royal descendant of Kamehameha the Great and Queen Ka'ahumanu, his 4th great grandparents.
Pono's creative journey was influenced by his father, a talented.and prolific Hawaiian oil painter.
After studying Fine Arts at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa and Photography and Design at the Art Center College of Design in California, Pono did freelance photography work for several major Los Angeles record labels before returning to Hawai'i to launch his professional Advertising & Design career.
He has served as Art Director, Creative Director, and Lead Designer for many Design Studios including Austen Design, Chameleon Productions, Reality Entertainment, and HonStudios.
Pono currently heads Pono.Design Studio and has designed and marketed several of his own Streetwear apparel brands including Pono Streetwear, Hawaiian Born x Bred, Town Brand, SK808 Skatewear and Nalu Surf Brand.
Pono has designed for over 40 apparel client brands, specializing in Brand Strategy, Brand Development and Brand Design primarily for Surf, Skate, and Streetwear apparel brands.
Pono is now available for free consultations for Advertising and Marketing Campaign Planning and Development, Art Direction, Creative Direction, Creative Design, Writing, Publicity, Public Relations and Event Production.
