Offering private surf lessons in Waikiki. I've been officially doing surf lessons for over 10 years, and hold a current "Blue Card" issued to me by the D.L.N.R.'s Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation which certifies me to professionally (and legally) give surf lessons in Hawai'i.
The craigslist catch? Currently, I am only regularly available for "dawn patrol" early at sunrise on weekday mornings. Also, we will learn and practice in Waikiki. I don't want us stinking up other surf breaks as we learn to surf better. Kind of like driving a car, best to get your fundamentals in a big empty parking lot rather than the free way, you know what I mean? Anyway...
Things I can potentially teach and train you on:
-Wave Reading
If someone can figure out an articulate way to write this in a book, diagram, or how-to video, and easily teach it, they'd become millionaires, I swear. I will share with you some of the many different and illusive indicators of a "good," surf-able wave.
-Paddle Technique
Did you know, you may be expending energy needlessly by paddling incorrectly?
-How to Catch a Wave
Timing, when and where, what to look for, etc.
-Balance/Stance
Body, feet and posture.
-Positioning
Too far forward? Too far back? Just right.
-Leverage: How to Control The Board/Ride
“How do I turn?”
-Etiquette
The unwritten rules that [usually] govern a surf break.
Offering beginner's one-off first "discovery" surf session, through intermediate level and longer-term instruction/guidance/training. If you're a pro or trying to become a pro, this isn't for you (duh).
PRICING
$150 for up to a 2 hour session, for one individual. Will charge less (-$30 discount) if you provide your own functional equipment (buoyant LONG board, working leash, etc.). I'm mostly looking to take individuals out as to maximize safety and learning. This is for someone who is genuinely interested in learning how to surf and/or get better. I am open to the idea of taking a pair of people out however, so if you're excitedly wanting to bring another person with you, you can bring them along for an extra $100 (-$30 discount if they supply their own equipment). I am not offering group (3 or more people) lessons at this time. Too chaotic and potentially dangerous.
We will start at sunrise (6:30am or so), Monday through Friday (I'd have to be out of the water and back on shore by 8:30am to get to the corporate job in time).
For your convenience, I can accept payment by Cash, Credit/Debit (via Square), Venmo, Personal Check, etc.
If you’re still interested, send me an email and we’ll discuss scheduling your first session and whatever else. I look forward to hearing from you.
