A cascade of light and cut crystal, gilded and hand-beaded, the kind of piece a room organizes itself around. Eighteen candelabra lights rise in two glowing tiers from a frame of aged gilt metal, every arm wrapped in tiny beaded crystal so the whole structure seems spun from light rather than built from iron. Cut-glass bobeche cups catch each flame-tip bulb. Faceted rock-crystal drops and long strands of hand-strung beads fall in soft curtains from the crown, and a fluted glass ball finial tops the piece.
Lit, it scatters warmth across the ceiling and throws slow, shivering points of light down the walls. This is an antique, and it wears its years beautifully — the gilding softened to a warm, uneven patina.
