Up for sale is a rare piece of American industrial history: a vintage Van Norman Machine Tool Company Model D Valve Refacer. Manufactured in Springfield, Massachusetts, this heavy cast-iron machine dates back to the 1920s and was a staple tool in early automotive machine shops for resurfacing engine valves.
This unit features its original, beautifully crafted brass data plates and is paired with a heavy-duty vintage Robbins & Myers motor setup.
Condition & Testing:
• Tested and working: The electric motor fires up, runs, and powers the drive belt assembly. The mechanics move as they should.
• Cosmetics: In raw, un-restored garage-find condition. It features a heavy cosmetic layer of authentic shop dust, grease, and patina from decades of storage. It is a prime candidate for a complete aesthetic restoration or can be used as a rugged, vintage addition to a functional machine shop.
• Completeness: The critical structural parts, handwheels, sliding tables, and the valve chuck head are intact. Please review photos carefully for exactly what is included.
Specifications:
• Manufacturer: Van Norman Machine Tool Company (Springfield, MASS)
• Model: D
• Serial Number: 1884
• Motor: Vintage Robbins & Myers Co. Belt-Drive Motor
Note: Due to the solid cast iron construction, this unit is extremely heavy. Local pickup is highly preferred. Freight or specialized heavy-item shipping can be coordinated at the buyer’s direct expense. Feel free to make an offer
