The Studio Caliber.22 features a 2XEL84 power section, rated at 22 watts. The original Studio .22 amps were designed for players who didn't need the power and tonal versatility of the Mark Series amps. They have fewer switching options; but don't mistake them for budget amps. These are built to the same high-quality standards as the other bigger Mesas, and offer a professional quality amp with professional features. These amps work best in a studio situation, where you can tweak it to get a great tone for a clean rhythm track; and then reset the tone controls to overdub your solos with a searing lead voice. The included foot switch provides a separate channel as a boost for lead or a slightly different tone.

This a terrific amp to have around for recording, practice, and especially for playing out at the local pub. A lot of jazz players love the warm tones of the Studio 22 amp, and the blues and rock player will find some searing tones when these amps get cranked. They’re even loud enough to hang with a drummer. Mesa amps have a send and return loop to typically handle pedals. It also has a direct out with it’s own volume knob for running to mixer or audio interface for recording.
I’m the original owner. Purchased in 1986/87, serial number SS 9279. Used professionally for local weekend gigs until 1994. After 30 + years of playing I had to get a real job. I kept the amp hoping I would get back to it someday but now at 75 I don’t think that’s going to happen.
