GenIII 5.3 out of a 2003 GMC Sierra. This engine was built a few years ago with a brand new bottom end. It only has about 20k miles on it.(Probably 40 or so drag strip passes) It would carry an extended cab full size truck to a 13 second quarter mile. Unfortunately, it had a catastrophic failure one evening during regular driving.
I'm still not sure what happened, it looks like it jumped time but that's just not possible because it had a Katech C5R timing chain and there has never been one of those fail. Anyways, One piston got completely obliterated taking the head out with it, another piston looks like it had some shrapnel get into it's cylinder, and another piston has marks that look like the valves touched it.
So to make a long story longer you've got a pretty clean 5.3 block with a good, low mileage crank, 7 good, low mileage rods, and 5 good low mileage pistons. It will need boring as you can see in pics. The cam on the block now is just a stock 6.0 cam that I stuck in there to get it out of the way. I took my good cam out to reuse in my next build. I will remove the crank gear for the timing chain, I'm keeping that.
