Looks a bit like mercury glass, metal, open on bottom. Have displayed with little led lights inside. Very pretty. Bottom about 4 inch diameter base. Approx 8 inches tall. About 11 inch at widest. Three dimensional, finished all around. Inside will flake if wiped or washed. Do not know history, may have been a type of light shade. Christmas holidays bright light twinkle decoration
