1 Welbar-ish Rooster ~3 1/2 yrs old. Definitely Wellsummer/Barred Rock cross, but a hint of something that makes him a little more copper than silver on his hackles and saddle.
These are docile birds, very good egg layers, a great choice for a dark brown egg layer.
The Welbar is a cross between the Welsummer and the Barred Plymouth Rock first developed in the Cambridge region of Brittain in the 1940's. They were bred to combine beauty, utility and ease of management, making them ideal for small farms and backyard flocks. They exhibit unusual, but beautiful Crele coloration.
They are an Autosexing breed with the hens looking like barred Welsummers and the rooster having a Crele plumage pattern. Chicks are identifiable by sex at hatch. While they are a dual purpose breed, they are excellent egg layers, laying up to 240 large, brown eggs per year.
This is a hearty breed that adapts well to heat or cold, with strong immune systems and good feather coverage. They thrive in free-range environments, with active foraging behavior. Calm, friendly demeanor makes them a great choice for families or first-time keepers. With proper care the lifespan can be 6-8 years, offering several years of egg production. This dual purpose breed is a great choice if you are looking for meat and/or egg production.
