There is a story about a guy who had to navigate a RR bridge to get back to his marina. The mast wouldn't fit under the bridge at high tide. His wife wasn't much of a sailor and rarely enjoyed the boat, and she accused her husband of always going sailing with an attractive female crew. He would often call her in the evening and say, "Honey, the tide is high, we can't get under the bridge, I call back in the morning at low tide."
So, looking for his solution, the sailor posted this to the sailing community: "Should I shorten the stick or ditch the bitch?"
I can assure you that none of this rigging encountered a bridge, and I never had to call my wife. In fact when she said, " You mean we have to spend the night out here at anchor?" I always replied, "Honey, I found a nice bottle of wine, and ...."
