Pay: $28+ per hour, based on demonstrated deck installation and crew-lead experience
Knot Just Decks is looking for an experienced Lead Deck Installer / Crew Leader who takes pride in quality craftsmanship and knows how to lead a crew and a job from start to finish.
This is not an entry-level position. We are looking for someone with hands-on deck or residential construction experience who can step onto a jobsite, understand the project, organize the crew, solve problems, and make sure the finished product meets our standards.
At Knot Just Decks, we believe the way we work matters just as much as the work we produce. Our team is built around five core values: Fun, Self-Motivated, Honesty, Help-First, and Humbly-Confident.
If you're an experienced carpenter or deck builder who wants to take ownership of your work and lead a team, we'd like to talk with you.
What You'll Do
As a Lead Deck Installer, you will be responsible for leading your crew through residential deck projects while working alongside them.
Responsibilities include:
Lead and work alongside a deck installation crew
Build and install wood and composite decking systems
Read plans, layouts, measurements, and project specifications
Lay out and construct footings, framing, decking, stairs, and railings
Ensure projects are built correctly, safely, and to company quality standards
Organize the jobsite and keep the crew productive throughout the day
Delegate work and provide direction to crew members
Identify jobsite challenges and help find practical solutions
Communicate professionally with homeowners, project managers, and other team members
Monitor materials and communicate shortages or project needs
Properly use and care for company tools and equipment
Maintain a clean, organized, and professional jobsite
Help train and develop less-experienced crew members
Take responsibility for the quality of the finished project
Follow company safety procedures and jobsite requirements
What We're Looking For
Our ideal Lead Deck Installer:
Has previous deck building, framing, carpentry, or residential construction experience
Has experience leading a crew or is ready to demonstrate strong leadership ability
Understands residential framing and construction methods
Is comfortable using construction hand and power tools
Can accurately measure, cut, lay out, and build from plans
Is comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
Can perform physically demanding construction work
Can safely lift and carry construction materials
Has a valid driver's license and dependable transportation
Shows up consistently and on time
Can communicate clearly and respectfully
Takes ownership instead of waiting to be told every next step
Pays attention to details and takes pride in doing the job right
The Kind of Leader Who Fits Our Team
Self-Motivated — You see what needs to be done and take action.
Help-First — You aren't afraid to jump in, teach someone, or help the team succeed.
Honesty — You communicate openly, own mistakes, and do what you say you're going to do.
Humbly-Confident — You know your trade and can lead others without acting like you know everything.
Fun — We work hard, but we believe you can work hard and still enjoy the people you work with.
What Success Looks Like
A successful Lead Deck Installer at Knot Just Decks doesn't simply build a great deck.
You lead a productive crew, protect the customer's property, communicate well, minimize wasted time and materials, solve problems, maintain a safe and organized jobsite, and leave behind craftsmanship you're proud to put our name on.
Why Knot Just Decks?
We're a local, family-owned company that believes in improving life and community through the work we do and the opportunities we create for our team.
We want people who are looking for more than just their next construction job. We want team members who take pride in their trade, want to continue growing, and want to be part of a company where good work and good people are valued.
