Xtreme Machining is looking for an experienced CNC Programmer to support our 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis machining operations utilizing Haas, Fanuc, and Okuma controls, while also assisting with estimating and manufacturing planning.
We are looking for someone with substantial machining experience who can review drawings and 3D models, determine how a part should be manufactured, and develop realistic estimates for setup time, cycle time, tooling, and overall machining requirements.
This is a good fit for a programmer who understands the entire manufacturing process—not just generating toolpaths.
Responsibilities
Program CNC mills using Mastercam and/or Fusion
Experience programming 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis CNC milling machines; strong multi-axis programming experience preferred
Develop efficient machining strategies for prototype and production work
Review customer drawings, models, tolerances, GD&T, materials, and specifications
Assist with RFQ quoting and estimating
Estimate:
Setup time
Programming time
Machine cycle time
Tooling requirements
Number of operations/setups
Fixture requirements
Overall manufacturing difficulty
Help determine the most appropriate machines and processes for new work
Work with machinists and management to improve processes and reduce cycle times
Troubleshoot programming and manufacturing issues
Help develop repeatable, efficient processes for new and existing jobs
Qualifications
Significant CNC programming and machining experience
Strong experience with Mastercam, Fusion, or similar
Strong understanding of CNC milling processes and machining fundamentals
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
Experience machining tight-tolerance aerospace or similar precision components preferred
Strong understanding of feeds, speeds, tooling, workholding, and machining strategy
Ability to look at a drawing or model and determine a practical manufacturing approach
Experience estimating CNC setup and cycle times strongly preferred
Comfortable working with both programmers and machinists on the shop floor
What We’re Looking For
We are especially interested in someone who has enough real-world machining experience to answer questions such as:
How would you manufacture this part?
How many setups will it require?
What machine should it run on?
What tooling and fixturing will be needed?
How long should each operation take?
Where are the major manufacturing risks or cost drivers?
The ideal candidate has progressed beyond simply programming parts and can contribute to manufacturing planning, estimating, and process improvement.
