Seeking a practical carpenter or prop builder for a paid, one-time film project on Long Island: a stationary wooden two-seat car performance rig inspired by the Porsche 918. This is a functional acting prop, not a drivable vehicle or exact replica. Plain, neatly finished wood is fine. Bucket seats and steering wheel will be supplied. Needed for filming November 15; please state your earliest completion date.
APPROXIMATE BUILD:
- Base about 72 inches long x 64 inches wide, split lengthwise beneath the center console into two approximately 72 x 32-inch sections for transport.
- Each half independently supported. Locating pins and sturdy draw latches or equivalent connections must align and secure the halves, with positive locking backup fasteners. The assembled platform must remain flush and resist movement.
- Top of deck about 6 inches above the studio floor.
- Two removable doors, approximately 5 feet long x 20 inches high, hinged at the FRONT and opening outward.
- WORKING interior and exterior release handles toward the REAR edge of each door, away from the hinge. Both must release the latch so actors can open the door from inside or outside. Fixed grab handles alone are insufficient.
- Removable center console, approximately 40 x 10 inches, SLOPING UPWARD TOWARD THE FRONT. Fit its height to the supplied seats and comfortable actor reach.
- Left-hand driving position with securely mounted seats, a turning steering wheel, and a minimal removable dashboard/wheel support.
- Quick assembly and breakdown with reusable hardware; removable doors and console for transport and camera access. Smooth edges and stable construction for two seated adults and normal entry/exit.
Dimensions are practical best guesses, not an exact Porsche cut list. Fit-check the actual seats, knee clearance, handle reach, door opening and support locations before cutting. Adjust the structure as needed to accommodate the five-foot doors.
COMPENSATION: $900 fixed labor fee for the completed build. Materials are paid separately by me, with purchases approved in advance. The labor fee is firm.
Please reply with examples of relevant work, availability, proposed approach, estimated materials cost, and workshop location. Please also state whether delivery or assembly on Long Island is available.
