Beautiful 1988 Signed Framed Needlepoint Egyptian Chariot Scene in a beautiful gold gilded ornate frame.
Artwork Details & Identification
• Medium: Hand embroidery using fine silk or satin threads on a smooth, olive-green silk backing fabric. The texture and stitching lines are highly visible in the close-up shots of the horses, soldiers, and wildlife.
• Artist Signature: The bottom-left corner features a cursive signature reading "G. Mesaud" accompanied by Arabic script and the date 1988.
This embroidery is a highly detailed replica of one of the most famous archaeological discoveries from ancient Egypt: The Chariot Hunt Scene from King Tutankhamun's Painted Chest, which was found in his tomb (KV62) by Howard Carter in 1922 and is housed in the Grand Egyptian Museum.
• The Centerpiece: King Tutankhamun is depicted steering a light war chariot, drawing his bow to full tension as he charges forward.
• The Wild Reeds and Game: To the right, his arrows fly into a dense thicket of marsh papyrus reeds, striking wild desert fauna, including running gazelles/antelopes and a charging wild bull.
• The River: In the far right corner, a body of water teeming with distinct Nile river fish and waterfowl is beautifully detailed in blue and silver threads.
• The Entourage: Running directly underneath the pharaoh’s chariot horses are rows of royal foot soldiers, archers, and attendants guarding the hunting expedition.
• The Cartouches: The oval enclosures near the top left corner feature the royal name signs (cartouches) of King Tutankhamun.
Dimensions: 27.5" H x 33.5" W
The embroidery inside frame is in excellent condition. The ornate frame does have few minor wear of the gold paint as shown in the pictures but could easily be touched up with gold paint.
