The top just sets on top with retaining pegs. My dad purchased it for a project. He never got to that project. After he was gone my mom used to store bird seed. It will clean out nicely inside. Right now, it has old bird seed in it which I will clean out. This could be used for some type of a brewing or lab purpose I'm not really sure what. The top sits on top so it is not sealed. If you can weld you could weld a top into it. It is very heavy duty. $250
