I believe this striking Vintage Draper Headboard was commissioned by the Historic Greenbrier Hotel in West Virginia in the early 1900's. It has lived, so has nicks, scratches and a few small cracks. Professional refurbishment will return it to its original beauty and create a good price if you decide to sell.
I would feel bad disposing of this, so if you can either pick up or handle shipping this piece of history, it is yours at no cost. I am in Fair Haven, NJ.
Classic Dorothy Draper Black with gold accents.
Solid wood Twin Headboard
88” wide, 53” high at center, 80” high at posts
Posts 2 ½ x 2 ½” with additional 2” x ¾” support at mounting. Posts held tight by glued dowel pins.
Provenance:
- Purchased 20 years ago from Lillian’s Antique Shop, 204 W Main Street, Sulphur Springs - no longer in business. Receipt has #194015 written on it and “58 of 80”.
- Numbers on back of headboard support the piece having been used at the Greenbrier.
- #6172 is written on the back in black marker and grease pencil (see pic).
- Former housekeepers from Greenbrier Historical Facebook Group explained that #6172 is probably the room in which the bed was used. Numbers helped track furniture out for repair.
- Greenbrier sold entire rooms of furniture during renovations.
The headboard is free, but all shipping and transport arrangements and expenses are the buyer's responsibility. Because of its large size (88" wide x 80" high at the posts), standard FedEx/UPS ground will not take it.You are welcome to book a carrier directly to pick it up from my residence, or pick it up in person."
