This is a really gorgeous, high quality, signed, MASHAD Oriental rug that was hand-knotted in the 1950's in TURKEY. It was signed by the master weaver, as an indication of very high quality construction in this rug. It took substantial man hours to produce this rug (2000-3400), and results in a design and detail that are simply not available in newer rugs. The rug was woven with 200 knots per square inch, which is also considered to be a very high quality weave.
This rug features amazing detail, exceptional design and beautiful colors. The yarns were dyed with vegetable dyes which are considered to be the best quality dyes for a deeper richer look than the harsh, flat look of newer chemical dyes. This MASHAD will be an impressive addition for your home. The exact size is 11.5x8.5 (so almost 12x9in size). It is in excellent condition with no wear spots or flaws. The field is a cranberry red with a huge starburst central medallion. The outer layer consists of 16 lotus leaves in tobacco brown, followed by an inner scalloped circle in navy and inside that is a rose colored center medallion with eight lotus leaves, and centered in that is an ivory and sky blue eight pointed star. It is a magnificent and impressive design.
We used this to stage an upper bracket home that has now sold. (We take the rugs back after the staging and sell them for a portion of their cost to reduce the staging fees.) At retail this rug would retail for about $6000 But it is Just $1375 here since the staging fee has already paid for the bulk of the cost.
