This letter was sent to members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and/or Hollywood Bowl Symphony orchestras sometime in the early 1960s. Johnny Green (1908-1989) was a well-known and respected conductor, composer, arranger and pianist, and composed music for many popular movies and other productions.
When my dad (Roger) was a member of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and occasionally the Hollywood Bowl Symphony orchestras, he was on various committees working to get better wages for musicians. (My sister recalls a time when Dad said the local trash collectors were paid more than professional musicians in L.A.). Hence, Johnny's gratitude note seen here.
As Johnny implies in the letter, it was easier to have his letter reproduced for all the people it would be sent to. I some instances, he added a little personal, handwritten message for certain musicians, as in my dad's case.
I've researched his signature and though people change the way they sign their name over time, I find many consistencies here. We have no reason to doubt its authenticity, but in the absence of official certification, I'm asking a reduced price for the document.
