Looking for the perfect new home for our little love bug, Niyama (Nini)! We've had him since he was a puppy, and he's now 6 years old, around 20 pounds, and a Havanese Poodle mix (Havapoo). He's neutered, in excellent health, and has been raised in a naturalist family with top-quality raw food and regular holistic veterinary care. He's also had his teeth brushed weekly throughout his life and is very cooperative with grooming and other care.
Nini is incredibly sweet, affectionate, playful, and eager to please. He loves snuggles, attention, and being close to his people. He's friendly with new people after some initial barking and excitement, and he adores our 10-year-old daughter and our babies, provided they're gentle with him. He would do best in a home without children or with only older, respectful kids.
Unfortunately, we have five dogs, and Nini has ongoing conflicts with two of them. He can become edgy and growl, which sometimes escalates. After a particularly dangerous incident with one of our large dogs, we've had to keep them completely separated. With seven-month-old twins and a busy household, this has become increasingly stressful and difficult to manage safely. We love him dearly, but he deserves a home where he can relax, feel fully included, and receive the attention he needs.
Nini gets along wonderfully with his little female dog bestie and also enjoys playing with our large female hound. He generally prefers smaller dogs and would be happiest as an only dog or possibly with one compatible small female dog, following careful introductions.
A little more about Nini:
He's fully house-trained, although if he goes a very long time (10+ hours) without a potty break, he may dribble a little urine. We sometimes use a diaper overnight as a precaution, though it's usually dry in the morning.
He knows basic commands and a few tricks, and is often a great listener (not perfect!). He walks well on leash but sometimes barks at other dogs or people.
He's comfortable in a crate and sometimes sleeps there voluntarily, although he may whine or shriek if he feels left out. His favorite sleeping spot is at the foot of our bed.
He's a master shoe thief! He loves collecting shoes in his little bed, but never chews them up. Just a funny little hoarder.
He loves car rides and will even sneak into the car hoping to come along. Once we didn't realize he'd climbed in until we heard him curled up in the back.
He enjoys walks, running, playing with compatible dogs, and occasional toys, but isn't excessively high-energy.
He needs regular grooming (we do every 8 weeks), but he's wonderfully cooperative. Longer hair requires frequent brushing to prevent matting.
He tends to bark when visitors arrive and can be an enthusiastic greeter. He also loves giving kisses, sometimes a little excessively!
He's generally confident, isn't particularly bothered by fireworks, and is usually fine with cats. He is not safe around small animals such as rodents or chicks.
Nini doesn't like being separated from his family and can become quite sad when left out. He would thrive with someone who wants a loving companion involved in daily life, rather than a dog who spends long periods alone or outside.
There would be a rehoming fee of $50. We're heartbroken to let him go, and we want to be very thoughtful about where he ends up. A home visit and thorough conversations would be required, and ideally a brief trial period, especially if there are other dogs.
He would also love to bring along his little doggie bunk bed that sits under a window. It's rather chewed up from the puppy years, but it's his special spot and might help him settle into a new home.
If you're interested, please respond with a thoughtful description of your family, lifestyle, and why you think Nini would be a wonderful fit.
