I’m selling a matched left/right pair of Infinity Interlude IL50 floorstanding speakers from Infinity’s highly regarded Interlude series.
These are the proper mirror-imaged pair—the powered 10” woofer is mounted on the left-facing side of one tower and the right-facing side of the other. That matters with the IL50, particularly since individual speakers and mismatched pairs occasionally turn up on the used market.
Hybrid Passive + Powered Design
The IL50 has an unusual design that combines a traditional passive loudspeaker with a powered subwoofer in each cabinet.
The 1” tweeter and 6.5” midrange/woofer are passive and are powered normally by your receiver or stereo amplifier.
The 10” side-firing subwoofer in EACH tower has its own dedicated built-in 250-watt amplifier.
That means your receiver handles the mids and highs while the demanding deep-bass section gets 500 watts of dedicated amplification across the pair.
Essentially, you’re getting a full-range stereo pair with two integrated powered 10” subwoofers.
Infinity Interlude Series
The Interlude series was one of Infinity’s more ambitious speaker lines of its era and incorporated technology developed for Infinity’s higher-end loudspeakers.
The IL50 uses Infinity’s CMMD (Ceramic Metal Matrix Diaphragm) technology for its tweeter and midrange/woofer, designed for high rigidity and low mass to reduce unwanted driver breakup and distortion.
Each IL50 features:
* 1” CMMD tweeter
* 6.5” CMMD midrange/woofer
* 10” side-firing powered subwoofer
* Dedicated 250W subwoofer amplifier
* Passive mid/high section powered by your receiver or amplifier
* Adjustable subwoofer level
* Adjustable low-pass crossover
* Line-level/LFE and speaker-level subwoofer connectivity
* 8-ohm nominal impedance
* Bass extension to approximately 32Hz
* Original removable grilles
Both speakers have been tested and sound excellent.
All drivers are working properly, including both powered 10” subwoofers, and both internal 250W amplifiers power up and operate correctly. The driver cones and surrounds are in excellent condition with no tears or obvious damage.
There are two minor control issues that I want to disclose:
One speaker is missing the small plastic wheel for the front-mounted subwoofer level adjustment. The control itself still works normally.
On the other speaker, the Low Pass Filter switch is damaged and currently stuck in the ON position. The amplifier and powered woofer work properly, and the crossover frequency remains adjustable.
Otherwise, everything I’ve tested functions as it should.
The cabinets and grilles show normal cosmetic wear consistent with their age. Please see photos for condition.
These are becoming increasingly uncommon, particularly as a proper mirror-imaged left/right pair with both original powered subwoofer amplifiers still functioning.
They are large and heavy, so local pickup only. You’re welcome to hear them working before purchasing.
